These
defeats didn’t last very long as the Kilkenny side went
on to win the All-Ireland championship a total of six times
during his tenure as Manager. The first of these wins was
in 2000 and the team then went on to win the championship
in 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007 and more recently in 2008.
One championship that Kilkenny dominated with class was
the Leinster provincial championships with a total of 9
wins under Brian’s management.
Until Brian’s arrival as manager the National League had
not been won since 1995. In 2002 they won and were again
successful winning another three times in 2003, 2005 and
2006, just missing out on the title as runner up in 2007.
One title that exemplifies Brian’s influence in hurling
was the award of Man of the Match in the recent 2008 All-Ireland
championship final.
