In 1990 Down made it
to the final of the National Football league title under
the management of McGrath.
One of the first
signs that McGrath would have immense effect on the team
was the win in 1991; the team won the All-Ireland championships.
This was the first time that the team had won this title
in 23 years, the team went on to win the All-Ireland once
again in 1994.
At the moment McGrath is the manager of Bryansford a Gaelic
football club in Co. Down. He is also manager of the Down
Under 21’s at the moment. Previous to this McGrath had been
manager at the Cooley Kickhams, Mcgrath spent three years
at the Cooley club.
In these three years McGrath proved himself making Cooley
Kickhams one of the most successful teams in the Louth area.
He also enjoyed some national recognition when he was appointed
the boss for the international rules competition. In 2004
McGrath was given this honour, the deciders believed that
McGrath had all the essential skills to bring them a victory.
McGrath returned to his home county after his spell with
the Kickhams, he began to manage the Co. Down club An Riocht.
While at this club McGrath really brought them back from
nothing as he helped them to get their first league title
in the history of the club. Now at Bryansford the club are
hoping he will bring his magic touch to the club with him.
