Philip was educated at University of Ulster completing an honours degree in Sports Studies and Masters in Sport and Exercise, specializing in Physiology. He is currently employed as the High Performance Fitness Coach for the IRFU. Before his current role he spent 5 years as the Head of Strength and Conditioning for Ulster Rugby.

Philip has also spent several years as a consultant to several GAA county football sides in Ulster. His consultancy work also includes working with Manchester City Football Club Academy players based in Northern Ireland introducing them to basic weightlifting techniques. Philip also lectures on the Sports Science honours degree at the University of Ulster.
