Paul Pook is a strength and conditioning coach with the Irish Rugby Team. Paul joined the IRFU coaching team in 2008; previous to this he has experience with Irish rugby as he had contributed to the development of certified conditioning courses in the IRFU.

Pook is a native of Wales; this is where his interest in the industry began. He played professional rugby and was involved with the Wales Sevens before he went into coaching.

His involvement in sports science and fitness evolved while he was working with the University of Wales. Until 2001 Pook was involved with Welsh rugby teams working in the fitness field with Welsh clubs, Ebbw Vale and the Wales under 21’s national team.

Pook then moved from coaching Welsh rugby teams to English rugby. In 2000 he began working with the English premiership side NEC Harlequins until 2005 where he held the position as head of fitness.
Before his promotion to the national team he had worked on various consultancy levels of the Irish rugby ranks from professional to representative. He was a high performance consultant to many different outfits including the Ireland under 21’s. Now a part of the Irish team Pook has a vast knowledge of the game and is well known for his innovative coaching techniques.
