Formula One Grand Prix returns to U.S.

Formula One is set for a return to the United States in 2012, after an agreement was reached to build a brand-new racing track in the Texan state capital Austin.

The decision for the southern American city to host F1 on a ten-year deal was confirmed on Wednesday, by the sport's rights owner Bernie Ecclestone.

France and the Netherlands both recorded narrow home victories in warm-up matches ahead of next month's World Cup in South Africa.

Robin van Persie scored twice as the Dutch defeated fellow finalists Mexico 2-1 and Mathieu Valbuena grabbed an 83rd minute winner on his debut in France's 2-1 victory over Costa Rica.

Kuznetsova rallies for French Open win

PARIS – Playing on the court nicknamed the bullring, defending French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova found herself backed into a corner facing triple match point.

An hour later, she was at the net for a handshake and into the third round.

The Russian's great escape came Wednesday against Andrea Petkovic, who held four match points in the second set but lost 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Murray faces Gasquet at French Open

World number four Andy Murray will take on home favorite Richard Gasquet in the first round of the French Open, while women's top seed Serena Williams could face four-time champion Justine Henin in the quarterfinals.

Del Neri appointed new Juventus coach

Italian Serie A giants Juventus have appointed Luigi Del Neri as their new coach on a two-year contract. The experienced Del Neri replaces Alberto Zaccheroni, who left the club at the end of last season. Del Neri, 59, led Sampdoria to fourth place in Serie A -- and a Champions League spot -- but chose to leave last week to become Juve's fourth coach in just three years.

Willett takes lead in PGA Championship

Englishman Danny Willett carded a six-under-par round of 65 to take the lead after the first round of the European PGA Championship, at a remodelled Wentworth, on Thursday. The 22-year-old former English amateur champion carded nine birdies, mixed with three bogeys, to hold a one-stroke advantage over Australia's Richard Green.
