Rory McIlroy secured a remarkable first PGA Tour victory

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy secured a remarkable first PGA Tour victory with a stunning 10-under course record 62 to win the Quail Hollow Championship in North Carolina.
It left him four shots clear of world number two and U.S. Masters winner Phil Mickelson and the youngest winner on the American tour since Tiger Woods in 1996.
McIlroy, who turns 21 on Tuesday, started the day four shots off the lead, held by Billy Mayfair, but reeled off a string of birdies and eagles to take command, capped by a 43-foot birdie putt on the 18th.
After going to the turn in 32, including a hat-trick of birdies from the seventh, McIlroy raced clear of the elite field with a run of sixth straight threes.
McIlroy, who underlined his reputation as one of the most exciting young players in world golf, had missed the cut in his last two events in America, including the Masters at Augusta.
He was barely in the picture at the halfway point, but a 66 on Saturday followed by his blistering final round left even Mickelson, who finished with a 68, trailing in his wake.
I suppose I just got in the zone
--Rory McIlroy
"I suppose I just got in the zone," McIlroy told Sky Sports.
"I didn't realize I was going eight, nine, 10 under par. I just knew I'd got my nose in front, I was just trying to stay there.
"Ever since I was 10 or 11 I wanted to be a professional golfer and you know it's been a crazy ride to this point. I'm just delighted to get here and get my first win of the year and to do it on a golf course like this is an amazing feeling."
Argentine star Angel Cabrera finished third after a final round 68, one behind Mickelson, but overnight leader Mayfair slipped to 14th.
Woods, who will be playing next week at the TPC at Sawgrass, missed the cut.
