Although the team did make the final of the All-Ireland championship that year they were defeated by a single point by the Cork side. These defeats didn’t last very long as the Kilkenny side went on to win the All-Ireland championship a total of six times. The first of these wins was in 2000 they again went on to win this championship in 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007 and more recently in 2008.
One championship that Kilkenny dominated with class was the Leinster provincial championships with a total of 9 wins under the management of Brian Cody. Cody’s team was successful in this championship since the first season Cody was the senior team manager in 1999. This championship was taken by the Kilkenny side again in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and again in 2008.
The team then began to qualify for the national hurling league. This league had not been won by the county since 1995, under the supervision of Cody the team first won the league in 2002. The Kilkenny side were again successful with this league another three times winning in 2003, 2005 and 2006, just missing out on the title as runner up in 2007.
Cody had a very strong team and with strategic tactics which meant success was plentiful for the Kilkenny team. One title that was awarded to Cody individually was the honour of Man of the Match in the recent 2008 All-Ireland championship final.
