Jackie Tyrell

Jackie Tyrell is an Irish hurler, currently playing for Kilkenny on county level. Jackie began his hurling career at the well known James Stephens GAA club in Co. Kilkenny. Tyrell was very successful at this club; he won titles at under 14’s, 16’s and 21’s. In 2004 Tyrell’s first senior county title was with this club in the Leinster Hurling championship. He again won this Leinster title in 2005 with James Stephens’ club again. 2005 also saw All Ireland success for Tyrell and James Stephens GAA; in a St. Patricks day match in 2005 the Kilkenny side took the All Ireland title.
 
While he was playing with James Stephens, Tyrell also played hurling at college level. He attended Cork institute of Technology and then Limerick Institute of Technology. It was at Limerick Institute of Technology where Tyrell was victorious winning the Fitzgibbon cup in both 2005 and 2007.

Tyrell has a very successful past with the Kilkenny side; he began his winning career with the county as an under 21 player. In 2003 he led the under 21’s team to a win at the Leinster Under 21’s Hurling Championship. The under 21’s team were also successful at the All Ireland Under 21’s Hurling Championship in this year. In 2003 Tyrell joined the senior team at Kilkenny. In this year the Kilkenny side were victorious at the National hurling league final, in this year they were also winners of the Leinster Hurling Championship. In 2006 Tyrell was named captain of the Kilkenny side; in this year Tyrell led the team to win an array of titles in this year. The Kilkenny side won the National Hurling League, Leinster Hurling Championship, and an All Ireland title. Tyrell led the team to win the Leinster and All Ireland titles again in 2007 and 2008. Tyrell was also awarded the very coveted GAA All Star Award in 2007. Tyrell has had a very successful hurling career and from this has a broad knowledge of Hurling.
