Pete McGrath

Pete McGrath is well known football manager in Ireland. He is best known for his work done with Down Football club, he first joined the senior team in 1989 after a time as manger of the Down minor’s team. In his time as the minor’s manager he brought success in the form of an All-Ireland title in1987. Then he was appointed the manager of the seniors team a short time later in 1989, it wasn’t long until Mcgrath made an impact on the senior team. In 1990 Down made it to the final of the National Football league title under the management of McGrath.
 
One of the first signs that McGrath would have immense effect on the team was the win in 1991; the team won the All-Ireland championships. This was the first time that the team had won this title in 23 years, the team went on to win the All-Ireland once again in 1994.

At the moment McGrath is the manager of Bryansford a Gaelic football club in Co. Down. He is also manager of the Down Under 21’s at the moment. Previous to this McGrath had been manager at the Cooley Kickhams, Mcgrath spent three years at the Cooley club.

In these three years McGrath proved himself making Cooley Kickhams one of the most successful teams in the Louth area. He also enjoyed some national recognition when he was appointed the boss for the international rules competition. In 2004 McGrath was given this honour, the deciders believed that McGrath had all the essential skills to bring them a victory.

McGrath returned to his home county after his spell with the Kickhams, he began to manage the Co. Down club An Riocht. While at this club McGrath really brought them back from nothing as he helped them to get their first league title in the history of the club. Now at Bryansford the club are hoping he will bring his magic touch to the club with him.
